Bay Area Psychotherapy Services

There are many types of psychological methods and therapies that help people who are in distress. I offer:

Individual Therapy

Specialized Therapy

Family Therapy

Group Counseling

Therapy for Individuals:

A Place to Begin

The therapies I offer vary according to the needs of each individual. In all cases, I use deep listening to hear you and to understand what is needed and what will be of the most help.

Humanistic/Person Centered Therapy

I oftentimes lean toward humanistic therapy by taking the role of facilitator and providing a comfortable environment and a listening ear. This is a more gentle approach than driving or directing people toward recovery.

Jungian Therapy

Jungian therapy is the understanding that guidance for what we need to function fully comes from within ourselves. It is grounded in the idea that there is a source of symbolic wisdom within each of our psyches that contains knowledge beyond what we know consciously. I work with individuals to access this wisdom that is held deeply within and to apply it in a healing way.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive arts therapy is an approach that is often a very helpful way for people to access and witness deep pain or other emotional trauma. I am registered as an expressive arts therapist (REAT) and frequently work with individuals through the expression of imagination in a creative work (painting, drawing, etc) and then integrate and process the issues that are raised in the act.

Specialized Therapy:

Special Needs

I have undergone extensive training in helping people with a range of disabilities including: intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum, cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, and seizure disorder. I work with families of special needs children and adults and also offer consultation groups for other therapists interested in further training in working with people with special needs.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Many people come to me with complex conditions such as borderline personality disorder, spectrum mood disorders and self-injury. I begin by helping to identify and monitor thoughts, assumptions, beliefs and behaviors that are related to negative emotions, and to identify those which are dysfunctional, inaccurate, or unhelpful. Together we work to replace or transcend them with those which are more realistic and useful.

Therapy for Families:

There are many difficulties that can arise within couples and family relationships and it is usually of great benefit to meet with an 'impartial observer' to discuss and find a way of resolving problems. During therapy, everyone's voice is heard and a respectful dialogue occurs. Issues are sifted through and, using various analytic approaches, a healing mechanism is set in place. There are many effective tools and as a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) I am able to guide families along a path of healing.
